A4. DESIGN SYSTEMS

In this four week project, we are going to make a design system that includes:

  • A tabloid-size poster for the symposium;
  • Two custom-size spreads (an introductory spread and following feature spread of a short article\essay reprinted for a 36-page booklet being given out with the symposium;
  • A high-fidelity layout for the landing page of the symposium website.

First, I sketch out the poster. for this event. I first sketch out the grid view for the poster and I want my poster to have clear titles and location and date information. So I put all this important information on the top of the poster.

Then I make the spreads. I choose the essay The Black Experience in Graphic Design (1968) because I found the images in this essay are very interesting. They are all black, and also conveys a mysterious mood. I want to make the pictures prominent in my spreads. I think in this way, it can catch readers’ eyes.

For the website, I want all the A navigation systems on the top of the web page. It is where most websites do, and it is very clear, accessible, convenient. It also does not interfere with people’s attention when they read the content of a website. On the bottom, I put some social media icons and some navigation bottom so that people can click easily when they are at the bottom of the page.
